Beetroot Capsules
You Can Actually Check.
Supports blood flow, normal blood pressure1 and heart health.2 Most people start reading labels after a reading at the surgery, or after somebody suggested keeping an eye on things. So here is what is in them, in full: 302mg of potassium and 960mg of standardised beetroot per two capsules. If you take medication for your blood pressure or your heart, speak to your doctor before you start.
Put it on repeat. Pause, skip or cancel in your account.
The Conversation That Starts This
It is usually short. A reading, a raised eyebrow, a suggestion to come back in a few months. Nobody hands you a plan, so you go home and start reading labels, and beetroot is on the list within about ten minutes.
Then you look at the backs of the boxes. Whether it is a beetroot supplement, beetroot tablets or a beetroot extract, they all say roughly the same thing in roughly the same large number, and none of it tells you very much.
You are not looking for a miracle. You are looking for something you can actually check.
Before You Start, the Medication Question
This matters more than anything else on the page, so it comes before the rest of it.
These capsules contain added potassium as potassium chloride. Several medicines for blood pressure and the heart change how the body handles potassium, including ACE inhibitors such as ramipril, the sartans, and potassium-sparing diuretics such as spironolactone and amiloride. If you take any of those, or any other medication, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before you start. The box says the same thing.
And whatever you decide about this box, keep taking what you have been prescribed exactly as prescribed. That is a conversation for the person who prescribed it.
Where the Box Ends Up
Next to the kettle, usually.
Or on the windowsill by the sink, or in the drawer with the others, because by this point there are usually others: the one the GP started you on, the vitamin D from November, the cod liver oil somebody’s mother swears by.
Two capsules with water, with whatever you already take, at whatever time you already take it. The blister means you can see at a glance whether you have done today.
Supports Blood Flow, Normal Blood Pressure1 and Heart Health2
That is the line on the front of the box, and these are the two nutrients it rests on.
Two capsules carry 302mg of potassium, which is 15% of the daily reference intake, and that is the nutrient doing the talking here. If you have been looking at a separate potassium supplement, this is the same mineral on the same panel.
Potassium contributes to the maintenance of normal blood pressure.1 It also contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system and to normal muscle function.1 Alongside it, 0.33mg of thiamin, 30% of the daily reference intake. Thiamin contributes to the normal function of the heart.2
Both figures are on the panel with their percentages, which is the part worth comparing between any two boxes you pick up.
And the Beetroot Is Measured, Not Estimated
Most beetroot capsules print a weight of root and stop there. Turn one over and look for a nitrate figure; you usually will not find one, because a weight of root does not tell you what the root carries.
The beetroot here is standardised, made to a specification with a floor of not less than 4% nitrate and not less than 0.3% betalain, assayed batch by batch. So the panel can print what 960mg of it carries: 38.4mg of nitrate and 2.88mg of betalain, as a minimum rather than an average. Neither has a nutrient reference value, which is why the panel marks both with a double asterisk. They are printed because they can be measured.
What This Won’t Do
It won’t replace anything your GP has prescribed, and nobody here is suggesting otherwise. It won’t be a juice shot, which is a different format carrying a different amount. And it won’t stop beetroot colouring things on the way through, which is covered in the questions below.
How You’ll Know
Blood pressure is a years thing rather than a month thing, so the honest test is not how you feel in four weeks. It is whether the box is still part of the morning in October.
Sixty capsules is a month. Put it on repeat and the next one arrives before this one runs out, which is the whole point for something you have been told to keep an eye on. If it isn’t for you, full refund within 30 days, even if the box is opened.
How to Take It
Take 2 capsules daily with water. If you train with weights or for endurance, take two capsules 1.5 to 2 hours before your workout for best results.
Do not exceed the recommended intake. If on medication, consult your doctor or a medical practitioner before taking this product. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied diet and healthy lifestyle. Store in a cool dry place, out of sight and reach of children.
On Repeat
A box is a month, and most people here are not buying one box. Subscribe and Save takes 15% off every delivery, renews at the interval you choose, and you can pause, skip or cancel in your account. Made by Wellgard since 2018.
Get on with your day.
1 Potassium contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system, normal muscle function, and the maintenance of normal blood pressure.
