What is MCT Oil?

What is MCT oil and how does it work?

MCT oil is a supplement which is made from a source of fat called medium-chain triglycerides. MCT molecules are smaller than most of the fats that we consume from foods. This makes MCT much easier to digest and absorb quicker, which then turns into energy you can use - which is great for athletes who are following a no carb diet.

When MCTs are consumed by us, they are sent to the liver where they are quickly disgested or turned into ketones, which the body uses in place of carbohydrates if you are following a keto diet.

You may have heard others talking about the keto diet, which is a diet that has been intended for the body to run on ketones (fats) rather than glycogen (carbohydrates). This is called a state of ketosis. Studies suggest that if you are looking at maintaining ketosis, MCT oil is better than coconut oil.

What is MCT oil made from?

MCT oil is generally made from coconut oil or palm kernel oil. Both of these have MCT in them.  You can purchase 100% MCT oil or a mixture of MCT and LCT (long-chain triglycerides).

The process in which you get MCT oil is through a procedure which is called fractionation. This method is what separates the MCT from the original oil and concentrates it.

Our C8 MCT oil is completely free from palm oil, derived from 100% coconuts that are ethically sourced from sustainable farms.

C8 MCT is naturally present in coconut oil, but only in minuscule amounts. Keto dieters use C8 MCT because it enhances fat burning while increasing energy levels. C8 is great for intermittent fasting and the Ketogenic Diet.
